This week’s additions and improvements stand under a very rural and organic star.
Chasing Aurora’s story doesn’t take place in one environment only. We’ve come to a point where one environment is filled with enough content so that we can continue over to the next one. Brainstorming sessions were involved as well as a few design sessions. With the new environment comes new vegetation, which is also in the works. Look out for awesome new birch trees!
Vegetation is not the only thing we’ve added, though. Flora can’t be without the corresponding fauna, so Felix and Steffen sat down together and think of a range of animals, that roam the second vegetation. Among them – a few curious fish.
The first environment was also filled with a bit more content and new weather elements. Rain, wind and thunderstorms will make the travels of our young hero a bit more harder, than expected. A new critter has also come to life and is now roaming the forest. It’s the first real predator in the game!
During the last user test session it became clear that we can condense the tutorial a bit more and focus on a few basic functions. And that’s exactly what we did. Stripped a few distracting elements, re-worked the layout and connected it a bit more with the story. The upcoming user test session will test exactly that.
Peter improved the camera tracking and its movement and enhanced its performance quite a bit. The camera is now also a lot better to control.
Another thing that not only bothered us but some of the players was the rather beautiful, but inconsistent use of colors for back- and foreground. We got together, looked at the troubles the players had and found a much better color coding, which not only creates an even more beautiful and stunning environment but also makes it a lot more clear what’s in the foreground and what’s collision.
